Description
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week a different topic comes up and bloggers list their top ten books in that category.
I love a good list...I've always said that. That's practically my catchphrase.
Top Ten Books Whose Title/Cover Made Me Buy Them!
10.
Title: The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
Author: Catherynne M. Valente
I LOVE an unusual title and this is probably the longest I have ever seen. As soon as I heard about it my ears pricked up and I knew it would be the kind of wacky, quirky, whimsical stuff I enjoy. The cover is also beautiful and the dragon is adorable.
9.
Title: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close/ Everything is Illuminated
Author: Jonathan Safran Foer
I don't think I will ever get tired of looking at this book. It is a compendium edition of Safran Foer's novels and is just so beautiful. The titles also captured my imagination; love how ambiguous they are!
8.
Title: The Underground Man
Author: Mick Jackson
I utterly adore the steampunk sepia vibe of this cover and bought it pretty uch based on the cover alone. Needless to say, I did not enjoy the book. Still pretty though :-)
7.
Title: Flappers and Philosophers
Author: F. Scott Fitzgerald
I love this title and cover so much. In real life the gold is pretty and shiny and it looks so nice on my shelf. The title is also just so 1920's and conjures up so many glorious images of jazz and speakeasies and New York. Now I just need to read it...
6.
Title: The Selected Works of T.S Spivet
Author: Reif Larsen
Again, title and cover just do it for me. Unusual and different and illustrated; niiice.
5.
Title: The Infernal Desire Machines of Dr Hoffman
Creepy and Disturbing; the title and cover say it all with added lipstick.
4.
Title: The Recently Deflowered Girl
Author: Edward Gorey
I love the strangeness and mock-Victorian-ness of this little book. It is hilarious.
3.
Title: The Marlowe Papers
Author: Ros Barber
The apple is gold in real life, and it is just such a beautiful book. I could eat it.
2.
Title: Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Author: Laini Taylor
Although the cover is nice, the title excites me much more. I like any book with smoke and bones in the title, really.
1.
Title: Labyrinth of Dreaming Books
Author: Walter Moers
Who could not love this title? I just ADORE it. The cover fits perfectly and the whole package is just BEAUTIFUL!
Those are the books that I am totally shallow over. I hope other people judge them by their covers too sometimes!

Love the cover of The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet, I've picked that book up a couple of times based on how cool the cover is!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen that cover of Daughter of Smoke and Bone! It reminds me of Christmas though haha :)
ReplyDeleteWow, nice covers! I buy books based on covers as well and I can just see myself buying these as well. Nice picks. :)

Daughter of Smoke & Bone is an awesome book! And I love the cover for Fairyland - although I couldn't get into the book.
ReplyDeleteThese covers are fabulous, Daughter of Smoke and Bone looks the most fab! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
J'adore Happy Endings
Great choices! I love Fairyland--it is such a lovely, creative, unique novel. And the title is just adorable! I love telling people about it because their eyes just get wider with every word. Have you heard that there is a sequel? I can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteI really struggle with covers. They are so eye-catching (as they're meant to be) and I want to buy everything with a pretty cover!
I also have never seen that Daughter of Smoke and Bone cover. I'm reading the novel right now and I love it, but my cover isn't as appealing.
Great list!
There are some beautiful covers featured in this post. I am particularly swooning over the last three novels, that includes the titles aswell as the artwork.
ReplyDeleteI may just have to take a wander into a bookstore before work tomorrow...
LOVE the old-style covers you have here! I want to read them all, too. :D Especially the Recently Deflowered Girl.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful covers. Funny though, I picked up Smoke and Bone but it was a different cover. I am not sure I would have picked up this one.
ReplyDeleteI only like the covers from 10 and 2. The others aren't really my style :) But thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteTTT @thedailyprophecy.
