Recommend A...First Book in a Series!

Description

Recommend A...
 …first book in a series.

There are lots of first books in a series that I would recommend. However, one that I have read recently and really loved was:

Title: 'The Immortal Rules: Blood of Eden Book 1)
Author: Julie Kagawa
My Review

I really enjoyed this book and think it is much better than your average Vampire book. It is full of high tension and very well-developed characters, and the plot twists and turns unexpectedly. It makes you want to keep reading!

Let me know what your recommendations would be!

10.
Title: The BFG
Author: Roald Dahl

This was the first world I think I truly believed in: the world of The Giants in 'The BFG'. I was terrified that I would get eaten at Witching Hour and their giant sausage fingers would come in through my window...uggghhhghghg.

Recommend A... Book You Read This Year!

Description

Recommend A...
 …book you read this year.

Ahh this is so hard! I have loved so many of the books I have read so far this year! However, if I HAVE to choose just one it will have to be:

Title: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Author: Jonathan Safran Foer
My Review

Yes, yes, Jonathan Safran Foer is all I ever talk about and post about and gush about and I am probably a literary fangirl of his books because they are SO BEAUTIFUL. It is like liquid language honey and his style just makes you ache with how lovely and devastating it is. Pretentious? Yep, probably. But when books are this beautiful who even cares.

Authors Behaving Badly #10

Authors Behaving Badly: When
Authors React Badly to Negative Reviews and Criticism!

Or: How NOT to Handle Bad Reviews!

When an author puts a book out into the world they must know it's not going to get completely positive feedback. All books, throughout history, from Hamlet to The Da Vinci Code, have people who love them and people who hate them. And most authors handle the negative reviews pretty well (even if they're crying inside).

However, some authors decide that they want to fight their critics. Some get personal. Some get downright nasty. Did someone say car crash?

I was originally going to post one article on this but so many authors have behaved badly that I thought I would make it a weekly feature! I bringz you all the drama every Thursday from authors who have been a little naughty.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books For People Who Like 'The Great Gatsby'

Description

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by . Every week a different topic comes up and bloggers list their top ten books in that category. I love a good list...I've always said that. That's practically my catchphrase.

Top Ten Books For People Who Like 'The Great Gatsby'!

I know that my list is going to seem strange to some people. The books I have listed are, in many ways, not particularly similar to 'The Great Gatsby, and most of them explore very different themes. However, what I personally adored about 'The Great Gatsby' was the time period, the glorious Roaring 20's, and the extravagance of Gatsby. The socialising, the parties and the smeared lipstick of the creme de la creme. The despair of the rich as their facade is ripped away and their parties descend into vacuous chaos.

The books in my list all, in some way, portray the essence of Gatsby; rubbing shoulders with the upper crust that starts off classy and cocktails but ends up revealing the dark underbelly of high society.

My Week Off!

Wedding-ing

This week has been the first time I have been away from my blog for more than a couple of days, and it felt so strange that I thought I better explain myself! Basically, two of my very best friends got married this weekend and it was the most glorious and wonderful weekend of MY ENTIRE LIFE! However, the above picture is just a small representation of how much I drank (hello open bar). This is more accurate:

I have therefore been recovering whilst also working and catching my missed sleep, so blogging has been sadly neglected. I will be posting normally again by this weekend and getting things back on track...and hopefully reading much, much more as I have gotten shit at that too! NEED TO SORT MYSELF OUTT. Someone give me motivation to read more because I am in dire need of a kick up...places.

So, I have had an unexpected week off but I am hoping it is what I needed to get me back into the blogging and reading spirit again! Reading um bai ayy x

I chose Margaret Atwood because I am quite into modern/contemporary female writers and thought I could hopefully give some good recommendations for some good old feminist literature!
