Beautiful Book Cover Artist #1 : Gregg Kulick

Beautiful Book Covers

Book Cover Artist: Gregg Kulick

I love Kulick's covers. They are so quirky and eye catching. If I had to pick favourites they would probably be Angelology, The Island and Beowulf. But I want them all. They would look mighty good on my bookshelves.

Find out more about the artist here.  His hobbies include pie making, beer drinking, hockey watching and writing in the third person.

Do book covers really matter to you? If a book has a bad cover will it stop you reading it?

  1. Those covers are so cool! I love his style with them. I'd definitely pick up any one of them if saw them in a store.

As for your question, I'd say yes, covers matter. There's a very visible difference between a self-pubbed cover and otherwise. It's usually a mark of quality and time spent.

Yet on the same hand, I wouldn't "stop reading" a book if it's cover was bad, not if I'd already started and like what I'd read.

But the question is: would I have picked up that book to begin with, if it's cover looked unprofessional?

  2. These covers do catch your eye, make you investigate what the book is, which is what a great cover is supposed to do :) Intrigue, catch the eye, make you stop and wonder. A marketing tool.

Would I not read a book if it had a bad cover? no, not at all. In fact I've read plenty of bad books with great covers :(

  3. I love this post! Excited to see more. =)

I actually have that copy of Fragile Things, and always loved the cover (it has a peep window thing going on). I would never have guessed all of these were the same artist, but I can see a similar style throughout even though they vary greatly!

Covers DO so matter to me. I know they shouldn't, but I can't help it, they do. If I don't like a cover, I'm more likely to buy the digital copy rather than a physical version, and in some cases I am less likely to read a book period. Shame on me!

  4. I can see why someone would like such art, because they are quite catchy. It's just not my style :)
