Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite Authors!

Description

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by . Every week a different topic comes up and bloggers list their top ten books in that category.

I love a good list...I've always said that. That's practically my catchphrase.

Top Ten Favourite Authors!

It's a freebie week and I went back to basics with my top ten favourite authors AT THE MOMENT.

10.
Author: Donna Tartt
Has Written: The Secret History, My Little Friend

This is a bit of a cheeky one as I have only read one of her books. In my defence, she has only published two and the one I haven't read I have signed copy of and is displayed in pride of place on my bookshelves. I'm scared to read it. It has decidedly mixed reviews. The Secret History was so perfect I don't want to tarnish its memory!

“I suppose at one time in my life I might have had any number of stories, but now there is no other. This is the only story I will ever be able to tell.”

― Donna Tartt, The Secret History

9.
Author: Neil Gaiman
Has Written: Coraline, Sandman

I love a prolific writer, and Gaiman is nothing if not prolific, boasting hundreds of amazing titles to his name. Unusual, dark and lovely.

“You get what anybody gets - you get a lifetime.”
― Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes

8.
Author: Terry Pratchett
Has Written: Discworld

Pffft did I say Neil Gaiman was a prolific writer? Has he written an incredible, ultra charming fantasy series spanning over 50 books? HAS HE FUCK. Terry Pratchett is awesome.

“In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.”
― Terry Pratchett, Lords and Ladies

7.
Author: Patrick Rothfuss
Has Written: The Name of the Wind, A Wise Man's Fear

I always knew I would love these books, but I only just finished reading them a couple of weeks ago: at the moment he is on this list because I am still basking in the wondiferousness of his story weaving.

“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”
― Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear

6.
Author: Alan Moore
Has Written: V for Vendetta, Watchmen

Complex and deep is how I like my graphic novels and Alan Moore delivers. Also: beardy goodness.

“None of you understand. I'm not locked up in here with YOU. You're locked up in here with ME.”
― Alan Moore, Watchmen

5.
Author: F Scott Fitzgerald
Has Written: The Great Gatsby, Flappers and Philosophers

F Scott FIT-Gerald.

“I hope she'll be a fool -- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

4.
Author: W.B Yeats/ T.S Eliot/ Keats/ Shelley
Have Written: The Wasteland, The Second Coming

My favourite poets of all time. Especially Yeats. All men. Weird.

"I will show you fear in a handful of dust'
-T. S Eliot The Wasteland

3.
Author: J.K Rowling
Has Written: Harry Potter, The Casual Vacancy

Because HP is our childhood and they can't take that away.

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

2.
Author: Jonathan Safran Foer
Has Written: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Everything is Illuminated

He's good. He's SO GOOD.

“Love me, because love doesn't exist, and I have tried everything that does.”
― Jonathan Safran Foer, Everything is Illuminated

1.
Author: Angela Carter
Has Written: Nights at the Circus, Wise Children

Angela Carter puts everything I love about books into her books and then some things I never would've thought of. That's why she does it the best.

“I am entirely alone. I and my shadow fill the universe.”
― Angela Carter, The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman

Those are the best I could come up with FOR NOW. Hopefully I'll be adding some new ones in the years of reading ahead!
