Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Can't Believe I've Never Read!

Description

Top Ten Tuesday is a weakly meme hosted by . Every week a different topic comes up and bloggers list their top ten books in that category. I love a good list...I've always said that. That's practically my catchphrase.

Top Ten Books I Can't Believe I've Never Read!

This week we had to choose a past 'Top Ten Tuesday' that we didn't do the first time around and I went for this one! There are way more than ten but these are the ones that I am most embarrassed to admit.

10.
Title: The Hobbit
Author: J.R.R Tolkein

I have this one on my shelf, as well as the graphic novel version. I really want to read it before the movie comes out so I will get round to it in the next...couple of years.

9.
Title: Brave New World
Author: Aldous Huxley

I adore the cover and the premise of the novel. I really need to read it but I never seem to have the motivation to pick it up.

8.
Title: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Author: Ken Kesey

A classic I have never even picked up. Shameful.

7.
Title: To Kill a Mockingbird
Author: Harper Lee

I think I might have read this one but I can't actually remember any of it. Re-read definitely in order!

6.
Title: City of Bones
Author: Cassandra Clare

I feel like everyone has read this book/series and I really want to! I have hard copy and Kindle version so I really have no excuse!

5.
Title: Sense and Sensibility
Author: Jane Austen

The reason I haven't read this one is that I saw the movie when I was very young and have seen it many times since, so I feel I know the story too well to be bothered reading the book. I will though. One day.

4.
Title: Northern Lights/ The Golden Compass
Author: Philip Pullman

This trilogy is one of the most loved and most widely acclaimed series of all time and I have no idea why I haven't read it. I think I tried to when I was younger and didn't get too far. I will definitely read this in the future.

3.
Title: The Catcher in the Rye
Author: J.D Salinger

No excuse. Just...effort.

2.
Title: 1984
Author: George Orwell

The ultimate dystopian and I have always neglected it. Again, just shameful.

1.
Title: Lolita
Author: Vladimir Nabokov

This is the one I'm most ashamed of myself for not reading. This is because I love Nabokov and can't believe I haven't read his most famous novel. ONE DAY.

Now all my book shame is out in the open! Let me know what yours would be!

  1. I feel the same about a lot of the books on that list. I haven't read more than half of them. You should definitely give City of Bones, the Hobbit, and the Golden Compass a try though. They're all pretty much amazing. I'm hoping to read 1984 this summer since it's the dystopian craze.

    5. I have read "Kill a Mockingbird" is 7th book of this list. I really like that format and writing style of Harper Lee. Great and amazing article written on top ten Tuesday books. I liked reading it and I will pass this to our team of teachers providing writing and see what they have to say on this. Appreciate such articles.

  • I've read a few of them and they are actually some of my favorites. There's always time to get to the classics, though. I just read a handful a year to catch up on what I didn't get to read in high school. I haven't done my Top Ten Tuesday this week, yet, but I did this topic a few weeks ago: http://meganm922.blogspot.com/2012/05/top-ten-tuesdaybooks-i-cant-believe-ive.html

  • The Hobbit, 1984, and To Kill a Mockingbird are all AMAZING - they're all some of my all-time favorites, To Kill a Mockingbird especially. I've read Brave New World as well - although I didn't love it as a novel, it was very thought-provoking, which made it an interesting read. Some of the others on this list are books I've been meaning to read, too.

  • I haven't read a lot of the books on your list either! I actually picked the same topic to rewind with today, but Infocused on classic middle grades and YA titles. Don't worry I feel some major book shame
    Too!

  • Oh, I haven't read Lolita either, so that would be my shameful confession! You must read To Kill a Mockingbird, I promise you won't regret it:) Great Top Ten:)

  • I've read 6 of these, but I haven't read Lolita and I would really like to, I've taken it out the library before now, but never opened it! I have never read any of Tolkien's work, either, even though they're some of my brother's favourite books and I'm sure I would enjoy them if I put the time in. Right now I live not far from where Tolkien spent his childhood, which makes me think I should at least give them a go!

  • I haven't read quite a few on your list either... including 1984 and Jane Austen. Read the Hobbit last year and personally, didn't enjoy it. Read To Kill a Mockingbird please, it's one of my faves!

    Reply
  • I'd like to read The Hobbit, too, before the movie comes out. City of Bones is definitely worth a read; I love The Mortal Instruments series.

    Reply
  • Oh you should definitely read The Mortal Instruments Series. I actually didn't like it at first and found the book a little hard to get into. But I made myself sit down and read the first one and became hooked. Great Picks :)

  • Great list! I did my post on the same topic and we've got several of the same books on our lists. You should definitely reread To Kill A Mockingbird if you can't remember it. It's an incredible book.
    Thanks for sharing!

  • I lot of these are books I haven't read or can't remember reading, I think some of them I read in school. I did enjoy the Northern Lights series and I enjoyed the Mortal Instruments at the time but my interest in them has decreased. I think my list would be lots of classics, I feel like I SHOULD read them but YA is much more appealing and quicker to get through!

  • Great list! I haven't read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest either, but my husband says that it's awesome! I loved To Kill a Mockingbird when I read it in high school, but I'd almost like to reread that one with adult eyes. But then there's just so many books on my TBR that I almost don't want to waste my precious reading time rereading a book that I've already read! Hee hee.

  • The first four books on this list are among my favorite! I haven't read Lolita either, though.

    Reply
  • OMG me too! So many good ones I must read too!

Lolita, 1984, Catcher in the Rye, Sense & Sensibility, Brave New World, and The Hobbit.

    Reply
  • Coincidentally the only one on your list I *have* read is The Hobbit! And I totally recommend. It's a much faster read than The Lord of the Rings, I think because it was intended more for children in its day? I thought it was charming. I've had the same problem with Sense and Sensibility, it's the only Austen novel I haven't read yet and for the same reason. Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, Pride and Prejudice, and Persuasion I read before I saw any adaptations and of course now they're my favorites. Emma I saw the adaptation of first and sort of struggled through it, and that's why I'm guessing I won't enjoy S&S as much. It's a shame.

And Lolita is one I've been meaning to read for ages! I've never read any Nabokov. I haven't read To Kill A Mockingbird either, which is so embarrassing considering that I always love my classics.

  • Gosh, half of these books I haven't read myself either! SHOCKING.
Though I do have a few of those books in my possession, so that should be rectified soon.
Just came across your blog, and really glad that I did.
    Definitely becoming a follower.

    Happy Reading
