Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books Written In The Past 10 Years That I Hope People Are Still Reading In 30 Years

Top Ten Tuesday is a weakly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week a different topic comes up and bloggers list their top ten books in that category. I love a good list...I've always said that. That's practically my catchphrase.

Top Ten Books Written in the Past 10 Years That I Hope People are Still Reading in 30 Years

This was a hard one. I chose books that I think WILL be remembered and definitely deserve to be.

Title: The Uninvited Guests
Author: Sadie Jones

This book was published this year and has had mixed reactions, but I loved it and wanted to put it on this list as it is the second best book I have read this year. It is just brilliant.

Title: Atonement
Author: Ian McEwan

This book is original, inventive and so well written. I love the bit about the word 'cunt'- it has stayed with me since I read it many years ago! Definitely worth remembering this book.

Title: Coraline
Author: Neil Gaiman

I have this plan to re-read ALL of Neil Gaiman's works next year because I love him. This one lovely and creepy and gorgeously written. I loved the film too.

Title: Blankets
Author: Craig Thompson

Probably still my favourite graphic novel. A beautiful and heart wrenching coming of age story. So good.

Title: The Time Traveller's Wife
Author: Audrey Niffenegger

Yes the film wasn't good. It was cheesy. But don't judge the book's quality on that. They cut out the best bits and the ingenity of the novel. Seriously, this is a fantastic book about time travel.

Title: Persepolis
Author: Marjane Satrapi

This is an important as well as educational graphic novel about the Islamic Revolution. Not to be missed.

Titles: ALL Jacqueline Wilson Books!
Author: Jacqueline Wilson

She has written so many books and I used to read them all as they came out until I got a bit too old. She is still writing now and I hope children are still reading her books now and in years to come!

Title: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Author: J.K Rowling

Yeah. Predictable. It WILL be read in 30 years time, absolutely no question about it. We will all be reading it and out kids and children's kids will be reading it. Accio Deathly Hallows.

Title: Everything is Illuminated
Author: Jonathan Safran Foer

Every week I talk about my love of this author in one way or another. I just do. His books make me happy what can I say.

Title: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Author: Jonathan Safran Foer

I love this book blah blah blah. All I ever talk about is this book. I don't know why I adore it so much but I just do. I love you JSF. To use his own quote:

“I love you also means I love you more than anyone loves you, or has loved you, or will love you, and also, I love you in a way that no one loves you, or has loved you, or will love you, and also, I love you in a way that I love no one else, and never have loved anyone else, and never will love anyone else.”

Let me now which books you would choose and link me to your own TTT's!

  1. Ah, you chose such classy things! My list is all kidlit and YA. ;)

  2. Agree with Madigan, haha... I want to read Blankets so badly!!

  4. Oh! The Time Traveler's Wife is a great choice! I don't know why I didn't add it to my list. That book destroyed me and I loved every second of it. :)
Anna is a great pick! Also, I love Twilight too... :)

  5. I do love the design of your blog.....and your list, of course! (Even though we only appear to share Harry Potter). I really must read the Time Traveler's Wife as everyone seems to love it.

  6. I love your list. I think Harry Potter its on everyones list lol:) Its on my list too<3

  7. I love your list :) I didn't include Harry Potter on my list because I knew everyone would be picking it but I love how you chose Persepolis and The Uninvited Guests. I haven't read that one by Sadie Jones yet but it's on my list. I loved her previous book The Outcast though, I highly recommend it :)

  8. Fantastic list! Atonement and Everything is Illuminated also made it to my list, hehe xD

Here's my TTT for this week: http://www.rulethewaves.net/blog/?p=4724

  9. I suppose I should read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, since I know there is no way that I can watch the movie, and it sounds like a story I should know. Book's always better anyway (and then I can cry in private!)

  10. This is a great list! Persepolis was fabulous! :)

  11. I included Persepolis too! It was perhaps my easiest pick. On so many levels. Glad to see it getting some love elsewhere :)

  12. Harry Potter, haha. That's a popular pick ^^ And I love that you choose Coraline! That's such a nice book.

  13. I have definitely always been intrigued by Jonathan Safran Foer. Thanks to recommendation, I will definitely be adding him to my TBR list.

  14. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is on my nightstand right now...Great list and I LOVE your background and blog format! :)

  15. The last book on your list? I just bought that. The fact that you're so devoted to it and the quote that you shared makes me want to read it very badly. I suppose I shall very soon.

  16. Harry Potter seems to be a popular choice today, but it's still a great choice. I really need to read Coraline...actualy, I've never read Neil Gaiman, and I really need to. Great list!

  17. We've got Harry Potter and Atonement on our list as well. I confess that I saw the movie adaptation of The Time Traveler's Wife before reading the book, and I still haven't read my copy of the book because I wasn't that impressed with the movie. I'll have to give the book a shot now, though.
