Book Chat: 5 Desert Island Books!

Book Chat: Desert Island Books

This book chat was started by Misty at . She asks which books we would take to a desert island under 5 categories and mine are actually very similar to her choices!

1. Book You Would Like to Re-Read

My Selection: 'Jane Eyre' by Charlotte Bronte

I think I would need this book if I was going to be stranded for a long time. Mr Rochester is perfect and love reading the conversations between him and Jane.

2. Book You've Never Read but Want to Read:

My Selection: The Complete Works of Shakespeare

I have probably read about 10 Shakespeare plays in my life, mainly through school and Uni but if I was on a desert island with nothing else to do I would definitely want to use the time to become a Shakespeare pro!

or

Alternative Selection: A 'Learn Greek or Latin' Book!

I've always wanted to learn Latin or ancient Greek but I have no use for it so therefore I have no real motivation to learn! If I was stuck somewhere though I would love to learn a new skill and be able to read things in their original language!

3. A Childhood Favourite

My Selection: The 'Anne of Green Gables' series

The first book is the sweetest and loveliest book ever written and, although the sequels get progressively worse, they are still adorable and make me happy.

4. Series

My Selection: Harry Potter

These are the most re-readable books in existence so I would have to take them.

5. Free Choice- Anything You Like!

My Selection: Complete Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett

I have only read up to Book 5 so far (of about 40!) but I love them and I am determined to read them all before I die! They are so cosy and lovely.

Which books would you take? Let me know!

  2. I'm loving these posts! I may have to make my own, since I've had so much fun looking at yours and Misty's. You two are certainly kindred spirits (though it's not like I would say no to ANY of these...well...maybe to the Latin and Greek, but I'm lazy :P).

I've only read one Discworld, but I loved it. I reread Harry Potter pretty much continually. I just reread Anne of Green Gables last month, and I am LOVING the cover of Jane Eyre that you posted.

  3. I ADORE that edition of Jane Eyre. So many of the covers are so blah and maudlin, but that one adds some nice quirk to the mix.

  4. Wow, you'd come back very well educated from that island, believe ;) Although I can't recommend Latin - took it in school for 5 years and hated every single second of it ! Then again...everyone's different! Nice selection, though

  5. I briefly considered Jane Eyre, but I'm afraid Jane Austen won out. But Rochester's banter with Jane is pretty fantastic! :D

  7. I just finished Jane Eyre! Must admit I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I didn't completely fall for Mr Rochester but the banter he had with Jane was fun to read.

I almost picked the complete works of Shakespeare too but it got cut at the last minute. He'd be good fun to act out with other desertees (is that even a word? haha).

    Great choices!
