Description
In My Mailbox is a weekly meme created by Kristi at The Story Siren. It is a where we exhibit all the books and book related amazingness we got during the week! Yay!
Lots of good, cheap second-hand books were, again, purchased this week. Next week I am cutting back. Maybe.
Title: The Goose Girl
Author: Shannon Hale
Published: 2003
Title: I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You
Author: Ally Carter
Published: 2006
'The Goose Girl'- based on the Grimm's fairy tale of the same name- is one I've been meaning to read for a while...and it has a really pretty cover. The Ally Carter book has one of the most cheesy and just generally off-putting titles I have ever come across I think but I thought I would look past that and read it anyway!
Title: A Series of Unfortunate Events: Reptile Room
Author: Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler)
Published: 1999
This is the second book in the 'Series of Unfortunate Events' series. I read and reviewed the first one here. I think this is going to be a series I really love.
Title: Lark Rise to Candleford (Illustrated)
Author: Flora Thompson
Published: 1945
I class this as a comfort read. For me, when I need cheering up and want something warm and cosy to make me feel better I pick up books about old sprawling houses in beautiful countryside and people drinking tea. I'm hoping this is one of those!
Review/Won:
Title: Pierre and Luce
Author: Romain Rolland
Published: 1920
I won this through a giveaway hosted by The Lit Bitch. I was very excited because it is a serious love story set at the end of WW1 and...it is less than a 100 pages so I might actually manage to fit in reading it! YAY!
Title: The Peculiars
Author: Maureen Doyle McQuerry
Published: May 2012
I was so surprised when I received this ARC! It had the little red band round it which I have seen in so many IMM videos! Thanks so much Amulet Books! This book is exactly the kind of thing I like to read; it is about people who are classed as peculiar and extradited from society and a girl looking for her Peculiar father. SOUNDS SO GOOD. And look at this pretty print-out they sent with it:
Goodies:
I won this signed book mark from Taryn Browning and very nice it is too! Very fat and hard to lose! I also got this little badge/pin from Etsy...it is referencing quite an obscure book called 'The Hunger Games'...I don't know if you've heard of it. I saw it on someone's bag when I was out and about and instantly wanted to copy them.
NetGalley E-Books:
Title: AuroraramaAuthor: Jean-Christophe Valtat
I LOVE this cover. Snowy goodness. The plot sounds very complicated and it is described as 'literary' so I'm thinking I may save it for the summer when I'll have time for it!
Title: TheiftakerAuthor: D.B Jackson
This is set in 1767 and I am hoping for some magical, swashbuckling action. It is about conjurers, dark pasts, and a necklace and sounds really exciting!

Doesn't Thieftaker look awesome?! I got that one too, and am SO excited. So happy you got The Goose Girl, I still need to read that one myself, but of course I've heard nothing but good things. I actually really like that ARC cover for The Peculiars, I hadn't seen it before. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWow, great books! I remember reading I'LL TELL YOU I LOVE YOU BUT THEN... years ago. I really liked the book series. And I like this cover way better than the one I had!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy them!

Great set! I hope you love Ally Carter's book. The title and cover may be silly but it's a great series.
